10 extremely expensive private schools

How much are parents willing to shell out for their children to get the best possible education?

According to a survey by the National Association of Independent Schools in the US, the median cost of educating a child in a private school in the US lies around US$45,000(S$56,074), inclusive of boarding.

The annual fees of for day school is about $20,000, reported the Huffington Post.

The price tag is justified by the state-of-the-art facilities; course offerings that rival some elite universities; a chance to study with the children of business tycoons and monarchs; and counsellors with long-standing ties to the most elite colleges and universities.

According to an article from the Wall Street Journal, the annual tuition fee at the Riverdale Country School, a private school in New York City, costs more than a year at Princeton or Harvard.

Riverdale charges US$40,450 while a year at Princeton University will set a student back US$37,000 and US$34,976 for a year at Harvard University.

However, the private schools in US are not the only ones that charge exhorbitant fees. A year at Institut Le Rosey in Switzerland will cost a student $99,566 inclusive of boarding.

Asia's private schools can also cause a dent in the pocket, with Singapore-based United World College SEA making it into the 10 list of extremely expensive private schools.

The school that caters for students from kindergarten through grade 12 charges $48,403 for boarding students and $24,884 for day school students.
