You decide.</em></p><p><p class="color--maroon"><strong>National University of Singapore (NUS)</strong></p><p>Many have claimed to have seen a white female figure lurking around the campus of NUS. According to various legends, these white figures are associated with the Malay's beliefs of the Pontianak, said to appear at night. It is believed that the Pontianak is the soul of a lady who died during childbirth.</p><p><p>Zahid (pictured above, right), 25, claimed that a group of friends saw the Pontianak "crawling" on the ceiling at one of the canteens. This incident has left many students petrified and some never enter the canteens at night.</p><p><p>Ismah, a 62 year old cleaner, turned pale with fright when we asked her to share her experience. She was alone on campus when she suddenly felt goosebumps, and she immediately knew that something was wrong.<br/>"It was so scary," said Ismah. "It was late at night and I will never forget the vision of how the headless Pontianak flew across right in front of me."</p><p><p>Not only did she feel the cold wind brushing against her, she also claimed that she heard an eerie laughter from the Pontianak.</p><p><p>Another encounter of a white figure was in the tunnel located at the Science laboratory. While passing through the lab at night, Philbert (pictured above, left), 19, saw a ghostly figure dressed in white. It has received countless attention over the years, and students today evade that area when it starts to get dark.</p><p><p>According to 18-year-old Taufiq Kathi, his seniors had shared eerie stories about the red bridge to students during their year one orientation camp. </p><p>"Apparently, many years ago, a girl was found dead on the bridge and it was stained with her blood," said Taufiq. After the incident, cleaners tried to remove the blood but it was impossible. Therefore, the management had the bridge painted dark red instead to cover the blood stains."</p><p><p>When the Edvantage team went down to check out the red bridge, the entire area was indeed very still. The toilets in the school were said to be haunted by feisty spirits. </p><p>Apparently, the toilet cubicle doors around the school open and slam shut by themselves in the evening. This incident had occurred on several occasions and was even witnessed by many students. Estelle Tan (pictured above), 18, a student at NYP had witnessed the strange phenomenon some years back.</p><p><p>As she was washing her hands, she heard the door of a cubicle slam shut. Moments later, other cubicle doors began to slam shut one after the other. The sound was so loud that it made Estelle shiver with fear.</p><p><p>Estelle was near the verge of tears as she fled from the toilet. The slamming of doors was also witnessed by another girl during an overnight camp at the school, who shared the same sentiments as Estelle.<br/><p>- Events as related by students. Fact or fiction? While hiding, she recalled feeling an "eerie presence in the toilet throughout". When the student leader was about to leave the toilet, she turned back and "saw a silhouette of a woman pointing at her".</p><p><p>She later learnt that the figure could be the spirit of a student who committed suicide at that very floor she was at.<br/><p>- Events as related by students. It was in the 1990s, when two students were heard screaming in the toilet. It was said that the murals in the toilet were alive, and the girls were screaming at the Statue of Liberty that turned its head towards them.</p><p><p>They weren't the only the ones who saw the eerie vision. Said C: "An ex-relief teacher who was pregnant at that time heard screaming and came to the toilet. She saw the same thing and collapsed. Then another teacher passed by and called the ambulance."</p><p><p>Ex-student Jasmine (pictured above, right) also recalled the same incident about the murals that moved in the toilet.</p><p><p>"(The story) was passed on that the Statue of Liberty's head had turned to one of the girls in the toilet, then she screamed, then her friend saw it and screamed, too."</p><p><p>Legend has it this was the reason the toilet was subsequently split into half, with a wall dividing the mural into two.<br/><p>- Events as related by students. You decide.</p></p></div> <div xmlns="http://www.coremedia.com/2003/richtext-1.0" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink"><p class="color--maroon"><strong>Montfort Secondary School</strong></p><p><span xml:lang="EN">Montfort</span> <span xml:lang="EN">Secondary School was founded in 1916. </span><span xml:lang="EN-SG">Since it moved to a temporary location in Serangoon North Ave 1, it is rumoured that there are spooky encounters especially during the night.</span></p><p><span xml:lang="EN-SG">Students Danial and Matt (pictured above) share their stories.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span xml:lang="EN-SG">During a CCA camp, the two decided to get out of bed at about 12 am to scout around the school for fun.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span xml:lang="EN-SG">They were excited and curious to find out about the ghosts in the D&T block where it is rumoured to be somewhat haunted. </span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span xml:lang="EN-SG">It was extremely dark and they depended only on the light from their mobile phones. As they walked down the stairs and headed towards the D&T block, Matt froze. His face turned as white as sheet and he immediately gave Danial a panicked look. </span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span xml:lang="EN-SG">"I was still very bummed by what happened to Matt and kept asking him why he froze as soon as we got out of the place," said Danial.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span xml:lang="EN-SG">Matt was shivering in the dark, and explained that he saw a female figure crouching and slowly revealing her face, before starting to pull her hair violently. She then began crying hysterically at the end of the hallway. </span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span xml:lang="EN-SG">Many students who were involved in NPCC and NCC camps have also encountered spooky experiences as well.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><em>- Events as related to student reporters. You decide.</em></p><p/></div> <div xmlns="http://www.coremedia.com/2003/richtext-1.0" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink"><p class="color--maroon MsoNormal"><strong><span class="apple-style-span" xml:lang="EN-SG">Queensway Secondary School</span></strong></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span class="apple-style-span" xml:lang="EN-SG">It was 8pm when group of Secondary 1 students from a team-building camp were brought up to classroom 112, on the fifth floor of the school block. </span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span class="apple-style-span" xml:lang="EN-SG">But according to the students, they started to feel as if they were being hit, repeatedly, as they walked in. </span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span class="apple-style-span" xml:lang="EN-SG">Screams filled the room and in seconds, it was a total chaos. </span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span class="apple-style-span" xml:lang="EN-SG">“Everything happened so fast, one moment everything was fine and the next the students screamed as if they were being tortured. It was truly shocking and traumatising for everyone that was affected” says Ms Saleha (not her real name), a teacher. </span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span class="apple-style-span" xml:lang="EN-SG">Student leaders rushed to the scene, turned on the lights and escorted the students out of the room. A security guard who went into the room also reported the feeling of being hit by an unknown force. </span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span class="apple-style-span" xml:lang="EN-SG">Bruises soon started to appear on the bodies of the students. Some students cried hysterically while teachers and student leaders tried to calm them down.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span class="apple-style-span" xml:lang="EN-SG">Since the incident, the classroom is cordoned off when there are any night activities. </span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span class="apple-style-span" xml:lang="EN-SG">Months on, Ms Saleha is still traumatized by the incident: "I try my best to stay as far as I can from that classroom. You decide.</em></p><p class="MsoNormal"/></div> <div xmlns="http://www.coremedia.com/2003/richtext-1.0" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink"><p class="color--maroon"><strong>West Spring Secondary School</strong></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span xml:lang="EN-SG">During an overnight camp in school, former West Spring Secondary School student Sharon Goh and her friends were in for a spooky surprise.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span xml:lang="EN-SG">Sharon recounted that after lights were turned out for the night and most of them were sleeping, one of her close friends walked to the hall area where the boys were sleeping, to wake her brother up.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span xml:lang="EN-SG">But while on the way there, she saw a pale white figure sitting on one of the lamps above. Startled, she quickly ran back to her room and could not sleep the whole night.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span xml:lang="EN-SG">“Our school is situated at a damp forest area,” said Sharon. “Certain blocks are just very spooky and were very eerie.”</span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span xml:lang="EN-SG">No student will stay in the classroom alone, says Sharon who revealed that the most haunted block is the Design and Technology block situated right beside a banana tree, which is commonly known to attract spirits.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal"/><p class="MsoNormal"><em>- Events as related to student reporters. According to Vicki, a current student at the school, she has heard many stories about the school being haunted.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span xml:lang="EN-SG">Her friend Denise, who is also currently studying there, said there has been a rumour that the school's music room is haunted by a pair of siblings who died and were buried in the plot of land, before the school was built.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span xml:lang="EN-SG">Both students agreed that they do not like to head to the music room alone, even if it is for a short while to collect something. They prefer to enter the place in pairs or with the whole class.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span xml:lang="EN-SG">"The room is not very big but it is dark and it gives me an eerie feeling. Here are some legendary tales from schools here that have sent chills down the spines of many students. <em>*Updated*</em></p></div> <div xmlns="http://www.coremedia.com/2003/richtext-1.0" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink"><p class="color--maroon"><strong>Bedok View Secondary</strong></p><p>Story #1 revolves around a toilet that is locked for years. According to seniors, it is because one school staff had entered the toilet and never returned.<br/>Story #2: A student was allegedly shot in the back at the school's air rifle range. But according to stories passed down from seniors, there was no one around at the time, and the 6 pellets in his back were shot from only one round and found in a neat row.<br/>Story #3: Many students say they have heard the sound of sewing machines and babies crying when they pass by the Home Economics Room, even though there is no one around.</p></div> <div xmlns="http://www.coremedia.com/2003/richtext-1.0" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink"><p class="color--maroon"><strong>Deyi Secondary School</strong></p><p>The school's band room is said to be haunted by the ghost of a female member who met with an accident and died while on the way to a practice.<br/>According to stories passed down from seniors, the spirit would appear from the band room when it's dark, still holding the trumpet but with a bloodied face.<br/></p></div> <div xmlns="http://www.coremedia.com/2003/richtext-1.0" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink"><p class="color--maroon"><strong>ITE Bishan</strong></p><p>According to students there, the toilet at the computer lab area is haunted.</p><p>Recounted one former student: "I went to the toilet that is nearest to my Computer Lab and MPH. There is no one except for me alone. I went in to one of the cubicles and suddenly there was a knock at my door. I knew something was wrong so i just kept quiet. When I came out, my friend from the opposite block asked me what I was doing in the toilet with a man."</p><p>The student was sure that she was in the female toilet, but just brushed it off. However, the next day, another friend told her she saw a man in the same female toilet, and did not dare go in.</p><p>Netizens say the school is haunted because the site that the school is sitting on used to be a cemetery.</p></div> <div xmlns="http://www.coremedia.com/2003/richtext-1.0" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink"><p class="color--maroon"><strong>Greenridge Secondary</strong></p><p>Stories of someone being possessed during an NPCC camp have been circulating among students. The students were out on their "Solo Nights" and supposed to sleep at each corner of a block, when suddenly one of them started running, shouting, and pointing in different directions.<br/> <br/>And when asked who he was, he gave the name of another person instead, scaring the daylights out of his shocked schoolmates who had gathered around.</p></div> <div xmlns="http://www.coremedia.com/2003/richtext-1.0" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink"><p class="color--maroon"><strong>Nan Hua High School</strong></p><p>Another story that evolved from an overnight school camp, coincidentally also an NPCC camp. According to one student, he saw a white figure hovering outside the school gates while patrolling the area.</p><p>Praying that nothing will happen to him, the student turned around and walked towards the camp site to get his torchlight.<br/>Again, he saw the same white figure behind the school hall. He woke another friend up to show her the 'white thing', but the friend claimed she could not see it.</p><p>However, the next day, a few other friends reported seeing the white figure around the school. </p></div> <div xmlns="http://www.coremedia.com/2003/richtext-1.0" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink"><p class="color--maroon"><strong>Raffles Institution - Clock Tower Accident</strong></p><p>The clock tower is allegedly haunted by the spirit of a boy who fell while attempting to climb up the long flight of stairs to the top. According to the story, he had gone to the tower with a friend, and attempted to scale the tower. When he did not return after 15 minutes, the friend crawled through the small hole in the wall, and saw the boy on the floor bleeding, his head cracked open. A boy, unable to sleep, went out to the school field to take a slow walk. He jogged to the middle of the field, laid down and looked up into the sky. Just then, he noticed an old lady with very long hair wearing a white gown gliding towards him. He did not suspect anything. She asked him for the time and he replied "3am" (according to legend, one should not answer at all cost).</p><p>She smiled and glided off. Only then did the boy suspect something amiss. Why would an old lady be doing in the middle of the night in the school field? Did she come from the columbarium opposite the school?<br/>He brushed off the feeling and went back to his class. But however hard he tried to walk or run out of the field, he couldn't and the field seemed to stretch on forever. Then, he saw the lady again, but this time, her skin was rotting and she had glowing coal like eyes. They then stopped digging and covered the remains with soil.</p></div> <div xmlns="http://www.coremedia.com/2003/richtext-1.0" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink"><p class="color--maroon"><strong>Raffles Insitution - The Biology Lab</strong></p><p>Rumour has it that a pregnant teacher who was teaching in the Biology Lab had a miscarriage, and due to loss of blood, died on the spot. The foetus was kept in the lab and used for future learning. However, from that night on (especially on the anniversary of the lady’s death), weird cries and shrieks could be heard originating from the deserted third floor of the science block at night. <br/>Students swear that they have seen a small object drenched in blood crying, calling out for its mother. No one dares to hang around the area at night, and even the lab technicians pack up to leave before 8pm.</p></div> <div xmlns="http://www.coremedia.com/2003/richtext-1.0" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink"><p class="color--maroon"><strong>Haunted bell tower</strong></p><p>According to a contributor to the Singapore's Freakiest Online Ghost Stories, this unnamed primary school has a bell tower where a pupil allegedly committed suicide, and his spirit haunts the tower ever since.</p><p>"The heavy brass bell the was hung at the tip of the tower. No one could reach it without using a ladder. Every morning the head prefect will ring the bell manually"</p><p>Students have said they hear moaning and groaning noises each time they went up to the tower. The bell was then relocated to the first floor and the tower sealed. </p><p>The school has since relocated to a nearby site, but the old tower can still be seen clearly from the nearby expressway. One netizen posted that the school in question is St Andrew's.</p><p/></div> <div xmlns="http://www.coremedia.com/2003/richtext-1.0" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink"><p class="color--maroon"><strong>Siglap Secondary School</strong></p><p>Three similar incidents recounted by a former student all happened in the school hall. Students that were holding their rehearsals or practices there recall hearing voices whispering backstage. <br/>Another time, students heard tables and chairs being pushed around backstage, although nobody was there. When followed by two camp leaders, the boy seemed to be playing a game of hide and seek with them, but then suddenly disappeared.</p><p>When the two students approached the security guards for help, they came with guard dogs, but then the dogs started barking fiercely at one particular corner, for no reason.</p><p>Feeling that something was not right, they left the area.</p></div> <div xmlns="http://www.coremedia.com/2003/richtext-1.0" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink"><p class="color--maroon"><strong>Yishun Secondary School</strong></p><p>Another scary tale about a haunted school hall comes from this school. Members of the PA club, with its headquarters on top of the stage accessible only by a ladder, recall hearing footsteps coming up the wooden ladder, but then no one appears.</p><p>Other times, students say crying can be heard. The school also served as a temporary concentration camp to detain people for examination. With its rich and turbulent history, many believe the school to be one of the most haunted in Singapore.<br/>According to students, there is a particular pay phone in school that is free for use, but only after 12 am. And some say they have seen or heard the spirit of a boy who commited suicide by jumping off one of the school blocks. The spirit apparently follows its victim back to the room and keeps them up all night. The school had a strict policy that students were only allowed to leave the classroom in pairs. Behind the day care centre there was a door that was believed to lead to another world.
