Ex-teacher denies raping girl

KOTA KINABALU, Malaysia - A former private school teacher claimed trial to three charges of rape and two for committing carnal intercourse against the order of nature on his former student, an underaged Singaporean girl, early this year.

Adrian Simon, 31, who was produced at the Sessions Court here yesterday faces the first charge of raping the 11-year-old girl at a school science laboratory store between 2.10pm and 3.30pm on Feb 10 to 20.

In the second and third charges, he was accused of raping the girl at the same place at 10.25am on March 26, and between 2pm and 3.30pm on April 1 to 7.

Each charge provides for a jail term of between five and 30 years and whipping upon conviction.

In the fourth charge, Adrian allegedly forced the girl to perform oral sex on him between 2.10pm and 3.30pm on Feb 10 to 20 at the same place and the fifth was for sodomising the girl at the store without the girl's consent between 2pm and 3.30pm from February to April.

Adrian faces a jail term of between five and 20 years and whipping if found guilty for the fourth and fifth charges.

After Adrian, who was represented by counsel Hairul V. Othman, claimed trial before Judge Caroline Bee Majanil, prosecuting officer Asst Supt Sabrina Jinius told the court that the prosecution would be calling 15 witnesses to testify in the trial.

Majanil subsequently set Aug 26 for the case to be mentioned and set bail at RM8,000 (S$3,465.60). Adrian posted bail.
